New Designs
These designs haven’t been completely installed yet, so I don’t have “gardens” to show you. But here’s a starter to “whet your appetite”.

This is a new site, corner, traditional looking house, black and charcoal grey, almost symmetrical. It’s on a slope, with a retaining wall about 50″ high across the back (top of the picture). I decided on a raised bed design, which is what the “W’s” are.

This is a SketchUp model of the raised beds. Poured in place concrete with benches built-in.
Next is a simple square backyard that the clients wanted to keep fairly square-looking, mainly turf, leaving room to install a lap pool next year.

I’m getting a bit better at colour rendering:
It’s been difficult to discipline myself to get my projects completed earlier than later. So I end up taking pictures of the coloured design instead of getting it scanned before presenting it to the client.
SketchUp model of a little arbour/fence combination for the back. And Layout has these cool style options. In this case pastels.
So that’s it for the moment–it’s taken me all evening to figure out how to convert these pdf’s to jpg’s. More to come–stay tuned.
Comments? Questions?
Nice work, Janet! In that last rendering, those look like hand-drawn trees. How did you get them into Layout?

Thanks Todd. No unfortunately I’m still pretty handless when it comes to hand drawing. These are internet images that I “Gimp’d” to remove the background, then used to create a Face Me SketchUp component.

So they are just photos or drawings of trees and shrubs off the internet?
And what the heck is Gimp-ing?
Thanks in advance!

Gimp modifies images. http://www.gimp.org. SketchUp creates 3D models. Images can be modified, then made into components in SU.

Thanks again, Janet. I downloaded Gimp. Could you brief me on how you ‘created’ the plant materials? You said you removed the background in Gimp. There should be a tutorial somewhere on how to do that. But the trees and shrubs have a rendered look to them. Were you working with photographs of the plants from the internet? Appreciate your help – I’d really like to learn how to do this!

Lots of information out there Todd. Just google “remove background from image”. Then look for images that meet the criteria in the tutorial. SketchUp Pro (Layout) does the pastel effect. And then practice, practice, practice.
