This was actually going to be about “so much blue”…

Brunnera macrophylla ‘Jack Frost’
But then I realized that most of what I thought was blue actually looked more purple, and
even some flowers that were bluer than purple in real life, looked purpler than blue in images.

Anemone nemerosa
So this is just a tour of the spring garden. There are a few other colours in bloom, but not many. And these blue/purples aren’t all in bloom at the same time: the anemone is finished now, May 25, as is the muscari. But there is still so.much.purple!

Aubretia deltoidea
The aubretia is one of the longest blooming perennials in the garden. This picture was taken one month ago today, and this patch is still in full boom.

Muscari
Now here’s a flower that is actually more purple-than-blue in real life. I’m pretty much over muscari tho’: they are so messy!

Pansy
I bought a mixture of yellow and blue pansies–for obvious reasons…

Veronica peduncularis
If I were a better photographer this would show much better; they are so delightful but I haven’t captured their sweet nature 😦

Iris germanica ‘Smart’
New to me iris. the colour is truly stunning!

Iris germanica —no name
Looks very periwinkle blue in person, but the deep blue pot behind makes it look purpler.

Love this view, especially at sunset.

Allium ‘Purple Sensation’
Happy to find Purple Sensation is self-seeding rather generously. Can’t have too many!

Chives
This planter had some white tulips, and tho’ the various flowers were all in bloom at the same time for only about a minute (and apparently not long enough for me to take a pic), it was surprisingly lovely. I’ll hope for the ‘vignette’ to repeat next year.

Iris hollandica
I didn’t realize how much I LOVE irises. These I.hollandica are multiplying–slowly, but surely. Yet to bloom are 6 more bearded iris–5 pink variants and an almost black purple. And this:

Iris ensata ‘Caprican Butterfly’ (possibly…)
Wow!
Thanks for all the inspiration!
I need more spring colour
